McKenzie Towne is a planned community in southeast Calgary, built in stages from the late 1990s through the 2010s on a New Urbanist model — grid streets, front porches, and a small-town feel centred on High Street, a walkable commercial main street with shops, restaurants, and services. It has a strong neighbourhood identity, with community events through the year like a Canada Day parade.
Getting around
McKenzie Towne is car-oriented day-to-day (Walk Score in the ~40–50 range as of 2025 research), though the High Street layout makes the core more walkable than a typical suburb. There's no C-Train station in the community; bus routes serve the area and the nearest LRT is Somerset-Bridlewood, about a 15-minute drive. Driving west to the Trans-Canada is roughly 25–30 minutes.
For families
The community has parks, playgrounds, a community centre, and a Sobeys grocery at High Street. High Street itself concentrates shops, restaurants, and services within walking distance for residents near the core, and the planned grid-street layout gives the area its distinct character.
