Somerset is a residential community in the southwest of Calgary, built out mostly in the late 1990s and 2000s. It sits next to the Shawnessy commercial area and has access to Fish Creek Provincial Park, with community parks and playgrounds throughout.
Getting around
Somerset is car-dependent day to day (Walk Score in the mid-30s to mid-40s as of 2025 research), but it has its own Somerset-Bridlewood station on the C-Train Red Line, giving a direct rail connection to downtown. The Shawnessy shops are close by, and it's roughly a 10–12 minute drive to Legacy and around 22–28 minutes to the Trans-Canada via Stoney Trail for trips west.
For families
The community is largely residential and quieter than neighbouring Shawnessy, with the LRT station, the Shawnessy commercial area, and Fish Creek Park access all within easy reach. Community parks and playgrounds are spread through the neighbourhood.
