South Calgary is an established inner-city community in southwest Calgary, built around the Marda Loop commercial district along 33rd Avenue SW. It mixes original older homes with newer infills and apartment buildings, and is one of Calgary's more walkable areas thanks to the shops, cafés, and restaurants lining the 33rd Ave strip.
Getting around
South Calgary is very walkable — the Marda Loop shops and groceries (including a Co-op) are a short walk for most of the community (Walk Score in the low 80s as of 2025 research). There's no C-Train station here; bus routes such as the #13 connect to Chinook station and downtown, and it's roughly a 12–18 minute drive to Crowchild and the Trans-Canada for trips west.
For families
The community is close to green space — River Park (a popular off-leash area) and the Sandy Beach pathways along the Elbow River are nearby. Marda Loop's restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques sit at the centre of the neighbourhood, and South Calgary is known for being dog-friendly.
